Appearing in late summer and autumn on wild rose bushes, these unusual growths, known as Robin's Pincushions, are created by the tiny wasp Diplolepis rosae.
The grubs inside feed on the plant through the winter and emerge the following spring. The outside of the cushion also provides a home to many other tiny creatures. These growths are also known as "Bedeguar Galls".
