A few Snow Buntings live and breed in Scotland but the majority of these birds arrive in the UK each winter from Greenland and Scandinavia. They usually head for areas of coastal farmland or high moorland.
Snow buntings get their name from the way they move through the air. Swaying from side to side in flocks their bright white plumage can look just like a flurry of snowflakes.
