Holly Blue Butterfly

If you've seen a small, bright blue butterfly flitting around your garden recently it's most likely to be the Holly Blue.  It's no accident that May is the peak flying time for Holly Blue butterflies.  It coincides perfectly with the flowering of the holly tree, which is the main foodplant of the Holly Blue caterpillars.

You'll often see these butterflies flying around the tops of holly bushes in the springtime, and you might spot the females laying their eggs on the flower buds.
