Scientific name: Langermannia gigantea
Size: Grows up to 160cm in diameter, but more usually up to 50cm across
Distribution: Found throughout the U.K.
Months seen: July to October
Habitat: Fields, hedgerows and woodland
Special features: Giant Puffballs produce the largest fruit of any fungi. They're white in colour, ball-shaped and smooth. They become a yellowy-green colour when old.
An average sized specimen can produce up to 7 billion spores.
