Scientific name:  Anyphaena accentuata

Size:  Body and head up to 7mm

Distribution:  Found in many parts of the UK, often in large numbers

Months seen:  April to October

Habitat:  Trees and bushes

Food:  Small invertebrates

Special features:  Buzzing spiders have 2 pairs of very distinctive dark brown markings on their pale brown abdomen.  They hunt by running down their prey on trees and bushes.

The buzzing name comes from the way the males vibrate their abdomen against the surface of leaves in order to attract females.
