Goose White-Fronted Goose

Latin name: Anser albifrons

Size: Up to 78cms

Distribution: Found in many parts of Northern Ireland. Elsewhere mainly in coastal areas.

Months seen: October to March

Food: Grass

Habitat: Marshes, fields and meadows

Special features: Most distinguishing feature, as the name suggests, is the white patch around the bill. Also features black bars on the breast plumage which distinguishes it from the Pink-Footed Goose. There is also a Lesser White-Fronted Goose (rare) which looks similar but has a yellow ring around each eye.
