Nick Eldred took this photo of a leaf cutter bee sealing the end of her nest in his garden insect box, in Essex. The bee was cutting sections of leaf from nearby runner bean plants. Nick said he's several positions for the box, and has found that facing south west is the most successful. The bees are most active when the sun is shining directly on the insect box in the afternoon.
The photo was taken with a Canon 350 fitted with a 100mm macro lens mounted on a tripod.
