UK Safari Tip:
Need help identifying wild flowers? Checkout the ID chart called "Woodland Plants" in the Nature Shop - click here

Latin name: Ranunculus ficaria

Size: Grows to a height of around 15cms.

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Flowering months: February to April.

Habitat: Found mostly in shady areas.

Special features: Lesser Celandine is a fairly common spring plant, related to the buttercup. In areas where it thrives, it produces an attractive carpet of glossy yellow flowers.

Click for a better viewThe flowers only open when the sun is shining. This way the plant ensures it will be seen by more insects for pollination, and it also prevents the pollen from being wasted by the wind and rain.
