Can Grey Squirrels Swim?

Swimming Squirrel - Photo Copyright 2004 Bob Ball Photo: Bob Ball

UK Safari Tip:

As this photo sent in by Bob Ball shows, Grey squirrels are not afraid of getting in water, and can quite easily 'doggy paddle' their way across narrow stretches of water.

This ability to swim could be a factor in their ability to expand their range so rapidly and colonise new areas.
