Latin name: Dactylorhiza fuchsii

Size: Grows to around 50cms high.

Distribution: Found in most parts of the UK, but less common in Scotland. Declining due to habitat loss.

Flowering months: June to August

Habitat: Prefers damp woods and meadows, especially calcareous soils

Special features: Common spotted orchids have dense cone-shaped flower spikes, with narrow, spotted leaves.
