Moth Clouded Border

Latin name: Lomaspilis marginata

Size: Wingspan up to 28mms

Distribution: Found in most parts of the UK.

Months seen: June and July

Food: The caterpillars feed on sallow and aspen

Habitat: Woodlands

Special features: The depth of colour on the Clouded Border moth can be variable. Some examples can be quite pale. 

The green caterpillars have a brown head and five bright yellow bands running round their body. They can be found from July to September. They spend the winter as a pupa, and can remain in this state for up to four winters.
