Photo: G. Bradley

Latin name: Pteridium aquilinum

Size: Grows to a height of 1.8m

Distribution: Found throughout the U.K.

Months seen: May to November

Habitat: Grows just about anywhere.

Special features: You can tell bracken from other ferns because the fronds are branched. The fronds of other ferns rise straight from the ground, usually from a central rosette.

Bracken spreads by underground rhizomes.
