Damselfly  Blue-Tailed Damselfly

Latin name: Ischnura elegans

Size: Wingspan approximately 40mms.

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Months seen: May to September

Habitat: Ponds, lakes, streams and rivers.

Food: Small flying insects.

Special features: The abdomen is usually all black with a bright blue segment near the end. This species is quite common, and can even be found around polluted ponds.
