Slow worms Slow-worms mate between April and June, and the young are usually born from late July through to September. The females are ovoviviparous, which is a big word meaning that the eggs hatch inside the mothers body. It's rare for the eggs to be laid before they hatch. The young usually come out of their mothers already wriggling. They're a beautiful golden colour, and are able to fend for themselves from birth.
The heat generated in the compost
will attract all sorts of creepy-crawlies, which in turn will attract the slow-worms
in to feed.
