Adonis Ladybirds

Scientific name:  Adonia variegata

Size:  Up to 5mm

Distribution:  Scattered populations in England and Wales.

Months seen:  April to October

Food: Aphids

Habitat: Low growing plants and shrubs on sandy soils and coastal areas

Special features:  Adonis ladybirds have orange-red wing casings with black spots.  There are normally six black spots on the rear half of the casings and one at the front in the centre, but this can vary.

The legs are brown or black, and they have a distinctive white pronotum with two black coloured, broken ring shapes, giving the appearance of eyes.
