Scientific name: Micropterix calthella
Size: 5 to 7mm. Wingspan approx. 10mm
Distribution: Found throughout the UK
Months seen: May to July
Habitat: Gardens, parks, meadows, fields and woodland rides
Food: Pollen. The caterpillars feed on honeysuckle
Special features: Flower moths have metallic bronze coloured wings with purple patches where they meet the body. They have a tiny orange coloured tuft of hair on the top of their heads.
Flower moths fly by day and are often seen in large groups on spring flowers in May and June. They're particularly fond of buttercups.
